Number VOL 105
Name Intro to Math for 3D Visual Effects
Format Lecture
Objective Overview of the number systems used in 3D computer graphics and demonstrates the common uses of math used to create computer generated 3D visual effects.  Demonstrates production uses for high school level algebra and trigonometry using Side Effects Software's Houdini visual effects program.  Uses extensive examples from feature film production.
Skills After completion of this course, students should be aware of the various mathematical spaces used in computer graphics and describe various methods to create and manipulate the numbers that describe the 3D geometry using high school level algebra and trigonometric math functions.Outside of class, students have the option to use the Apprentice Version of Side Effects Software's Houdini program to examine and manipulate the numbers.
